The Recreation Board currently sponsors four main programs: The Easter Egg Hunt. Summer Recreation Program, Family Summer Festival and the Holiday Decoration Contest.
RECREATION BOARD MEMBERS
The Port Huron Township Recreation Board is an appointed nine-member board. The 2021 members are: Leslie Arendoski-McMahan, Jean Ritz, Carrie Martin, Peter Shonka, William Livingston, Ed Montalvo, Maria Montalvo, Joan Jacobs, and Ian Egerton. The Board Meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 7.00 p.m. at the Port Huron Township Hall.
EASTER EGG HUNT
The Easter Egg Hunt is held the weekend before Easter weekend. We have found through trial and error that it is best to plan an indoor egg hunt. The past few years the Easter Eggstravaganza has been held at Central Middle School. Our attendance has averaged 200-300 children. We have inflatable activities, crafts, pictures with the Easter Bunny, balloon animals, cookies, punch and popcorn.
SUMMER REC PROGRAM (six week program)
Join the Summer Recreation Program for a fun-filled six week program designed to keep your children entertained and occupied while interacting with many of their friends old and new. This program offers many special days with contests, parties, tournaments, field trips and more. This drop-in program is available to children registered in kindergarten through the age of 14. There are two Supervisors and a dozen or more high school aged students working at this program. This program starts at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 2:00 p.m. A typical day would include playing sports games or other outdoor games then breaking for lunch (children bring their own sack lunch daily). After lunch the children may continue outdoor games, play box hockey or participate in making a craft.
FAMILY SUMMER FESTIVAL
This event is a family-oriented afternoon of late summer fun in one of Port Huron Townships parks. In the past we have drawn crowds of 300—400 people. We offer hayrides, carnival type games for children, a magic show, fire truck tours, and inflatable activities. It’s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with your family and a nice way to meet your neighbors within Port Huron Township.
ANNUAL HOLIDAY LIGHTS CONTEST
THis contest is open to all township residents who want to decorate their homes and property with holiday lights. You may nominate yourself or someone else. Just fill out the flyer form 2022-Flyer
and drop it off at the township hall before close of business (4:30 pm) on Monday, December 12, 2022. Please have your lights on by 6:00pm on December 12th so the judges may drive by your location and judge your display. Prizes are given for the top four winners.
